My Friends,
Every year I call my youngest brother who was born on Lincoln’s birthday. I ask if he’s had his birthday cake. Each year on February 12, I think about Mr. Lincoln too. I often (more than I care to admit) pretend I’m part of the crowd in Sangamon County back in 1832 when a tall, awkward man delivered his first public speech. I wish Mr. Lincoln and I could have shared a slice of birthday cake.
“…But if the good people in their wisdom shall see fit to keep me in the background, I have been too familiar with disappointments to be very much chagrined.”
Your friend and fellow citizen – A. Lincoln.
March 9, 1832
Thank you. May you dream of tall men wearing tall hats speaking of grand possibilities.
I created the computer portrait above using Adobe Illustrator and a mouse. At the time, Prentice Hall hadn’t purchased stylus pens or tablets. And as I mentioned in my previous post, I was learning enough with Adobe to be dangerous. This was done many years ago.
In this post you answered one of the questioned I had about you. Did you ever use a tablet and pen in place of a mouse or touchpad? I experience about every means of graphic input that is out there. As you can see by my posts today I’m upping my game with new technology that should be very useful considering my editing skills and knowledge of graphics software. I’m 65 but still learning constantly.

Hi Bob.
No, I only used a mouse and what a pain it was to draw with it. If memory serves, Prentice Hall Publishers eventually purchased tablets and stylus pens for their designers, but I’d been promoted to art director. Once I stepped into this role, I became more hands off design-wise than ever before. I know if or when I ever return to fantastic Adobe – I’d most definitely get me a schmancy tech pen 🙂
I think it’s fabulous the way you embrace technology. And, as you learn my friend, so do your readers. So thank you.
AnnMarie 🙂
Hope all is well in your zoo world and at McDee’s too 🙂

I don’t give tech gifts without expecting to help folks, especially seniors. I’ve introduced all three gals to computers. One now has an iPad 2 and an iMac while another has an iPad4 and a brand new MacBook Pro laptop. Donna, the birthday girl, has a laptop I sold her but has always wanted a tablet so she can read Kindle ebooks. Her new Asus 7″ tablet can do everything. it’s the baby brother of my Nexus 7.

The gals must love you!
They’re lucky to have someone who can assist them, a good tech person is difficult to find 🙂

Ah, good Mr. Lincoln – “I have been too familiar with disappointments to be very much chagrined,” such wise (and humble) words spoken by a genius. And may I just say I love his “tie look,” very savvy, very GQ! If only our politicians today could be more like him. And switching gears here: I’m assuming you’re talking about Robert’s birthday? Hope he had a great one!

Morning Deb.
I have several books on Lincoln. He and continues to be a living artist and muse for many. How magical his prose….
Yes, Rob’s B’day. He has a wonderful wife who spoils him rotten. 🙂

I’m a little slow today, but this occurred to me as I posted the last comment. We both have brothers with holiday birthdays…my Donnie was born on Cinco de Mayo, May 5 (probably a much smaller holiday where you are than it is here). – Fawn

Hi Dhara,
I did this a long time ago and I don’t even have Adobe on my current MacBook. I’d say – being somewhat familiar – it is not overly difficult if you have the basic software knowledge. I always found the most difficult aspect – setting the file up the correct way …but I’m sure so much has changed. I have a blogging friend Bob, his blog is https://pacificnorthwesttravelerdotcom.wordpress.com – he’s quite the expert if you want to give his blog a jingle. He’s also an amazing photographer and artist.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
Thanks for your nice comment though 🙂

Thanks a lot AnnMarie :). I get bit curious whenever I come across awesome design, graphics and art. Hence the question to know more about it. I had a look at his blog. It’s pretty cool. Thanks for connecting to him 🙂

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help with the computer software aspect – I’ve been doing all my art the old-fashioned way – by hand. Someday I do plan on rejoining the Adobe ranks. My ‘latest’ version of Adobe is 1998 🙂
Thank you for your kind comments. I really appreciate them. I will say this – whatever art you do – just keep at it and whatever medium you choose will blossom before your eyes 🙂
Happy Wednesday!

Thank you 🙂
