Silent Tiger Begging

I want your jagged black and fire stripes, mine are painted on
I need your rich dense bones, you will heal my afflictions
I desire your feline strength, my soul is weak
I covet your golden eyes, mine are merely human
I praise your elegant mystique, I have no patience
I mimic your sulky jungle stride, urban agility is necessary
I admire your powerful body, alone in mine I am nothing
So
I will kill you and take what I must have
And
When there are no more of you
I will move on to the next…
tigerThe tiger’s entire body is in demand for folk remedies, traditional medicines, parts/trophies, status symbols, rugs… The tiger has been targeted especially hard by poachers. Tiger populations have been drastically reduced worldwide.
Please dream of all species surviving…as is their right

  1. So true, so true, AM. Such a powerful, passionate poem (I’d like to reblog sometime, if you don’t mind). It’s so sad and ironic that people have to “kill” something because they want/need it. I think I just read today or yesterday that a whole shipment of ivory was confiscated — tragic! I love cats, of all sizes (just wrote this on Bob’s post today), and I can’t imagine taking one of their lives just to better myself … what sad, myopic thinking is that? [Love the artwork, btw! Now, drawing and taking of photos of animals — using art — that’s the way we should be “needing” them.]

    • The endangered animal research I’ve been doing is enlightening as it is terrifying – we can be cruel. But then there are many people – the deep-hearted active folks who are the only reason certain species haven’t gone completely extinct. I’m ashamed I knew so little.

      • At least you know it now … and there are folks who, sadly, will never know unless the right information gets into their hands or before their glazed eyeballs.

      • It’s like I’m glad to know what’s going on in much more detail, but I also preferred ignorance – it was nice. But, alas – ignorance solves nothing but taxes 😉 Oh, forgot you may use anything you ever find here for reblog at any time – no need to ask. 🙂 I’d be honored 🙂

  2. It angers me that so many humans think they have to kill or otherwise own something they desire…I pray that someday peaceful coexistence becomes the norm, rather than an oddity. Beautiful poem, AnnMarie, and a magnificent tiger. – Fawn

  3. I love this poem by my new friend and fan Ann Marie Roselli-Kissak. The tiger, to me, are one of the most beautiful animals in the world, along with horses. Respect nature and let animals thrive so they can survive.
