the ocean’s power

twenty lifetimes of burden for one to bear
is unjust
life asks so much of some
while requesting so little of others
the waves you cherish
float sorrow along
when you’re ready to let go
let the bad memories sink
to a place where they can no longer drown your thoughts
or consume your heart
perhaps there will come a time
where the waters won’t be so tumultuous
peace will ripple
and sailing on a cool breeze
through silent ocean blue
an aqua-eyed mermaid
with delicate feet
and hair spun of flaxen gold
will find you
welcome her with open arms
allow yourself
happiness
and the power of
the magical ocean
find the peace you seek

  1. Ah, AnnMarie, this is such a sweet poem indeed, full of truth. Sometimes I think those with much sorrow were given it because they could handle it; but then I think, Really? But thank God for the waves and those “aqua-eyed” mermaids. Beautiful words today, Miss.

  2. Thank you for liking “Wildflowers.” Nice post! 🙂 I like the first two opening lines of your poem because they drew me into the rest of the poem. I also like the ocean and ocean poetry, and I enjoyed seeing your dolphin. 🙂

  3. What a beautiful song, resonating inside the sea shell, held up to the ear with a full orchestra leading the waves, strolling to the dancing mermaid. A beautiful work of art, young lady!
