floating lazy girl

cheap sheers billowing
sails concave free of their masts
distant rumbling trains replace desolate ship moans
generous skies mimic seas of powder blue
flailing sparrow songs octaves up
high-altitude seagulls perhaps
aromatic sea salts stuffed
in cardboard cylinders
it’s been awhile since I’ve slept on warm sand
can’t remember the last time I heard laughter on the beach
needed the ocean today
settled for the Lazy Boy by the window
sipping modest merlot
waiting for the undertow to pull me out to sea

  1. Very nice and beachy, AM — puts me in the mind and mood of water and warm sand and seagulls and . . . and . . . it is so darn cold here! I’m sorry, but “modest merlot” and a Lazy Boy just ain’t gonna cut it for me, huh-uh. Get me to the beach! But first, get me some beach weather! Joking aside, wonderful description with a kick-ass ending that launches the poem off the page (er, screen). Great artwork, too — love the color combo!
