concerning my libido

if it’s a deep kiss you want
let’s do it
my feet left the floor
last month
in anticipation of this moment
xxx warning xxx
my desire outweighs my conscience
for this reason
I sometimes neglect the morning newspaper
don’t want to risk a good feel

while luxuries abound in my life
how rotten am I
worrying about
a kiss
a caress
my libido
in worldly places
where breathing moments are precious

passionate dalliances are often secured
by fashionista souls treading upon Pietra Firma tile
and silk bodies illuminated beneath chiseled sconces
so tonight
lips will ripen
with fine red wine
matching tapered candles lit
but not one faith-bearing votive
will glow in service

  1. Beautiful work AnnMarie! Tomorrow is my birthday! t-minus 6 hrs woo hoo 32 for me oh hell yea. Working on my new book its going ok. I don’t worry about making a perfect horror book. It’s more important in a time where horror is dead to put more horror into the world. I think it will be a fun book. Tomorrow is going to be a blast. Can I get a few birthday woo hoo’s from AnnMarie? woo hoo!

  2. Okay, so it’s Friday evening and I’m wine-ing down and wouldn’t you know it I read, misread the title right off the bat: I read “Chiseled Scones” and thought, Wow, AM is writing about food now, or B&N–and I love (and used to eat) scones! Wrong. ๐Ÿ™‚ But I do like “Chiseled Sconces” very mucho, AM. You see my friend here’s another example of how you can write sexily (is that a word, oughta be) or erotically and yet always underpin it with a serious message, a “makes you think” subtext. I like this very much, AM. I hope you got to have your “fine red wine” tonight–you deserve it.

About the music: I was surprised to see that you know of the Eels. The one song I play continually because I think it’s so pretty (in the same way that Neil Young song from “Philadelphia” is pretty, haunting) is the Eel’s “It’s a Motherfucker” (yes, that’s the title), but I gotta warn you I listen when I’m in my Debbie Downer mood (I’m gonna try to attach it here, but, you know–wine drinking I’m not sure it’s gonna work):

    • Hi DS
hope the trees are creatively chatting this am
admittedly, I enjoy now and again listening to the Shrek soundtracks – this song I adore and I love the Neil Young song too – when Nina was sick – I listened to Young’s song too much (I think I told you, my father’s cousin had a small role in that movie, Lauren Roselli, she plays Denzel Washington’s admin assistant)
I truly appreciate your time writing here when you could be writing there:) lol I have scones in my head now
I think this piece needs a bit more work – the flow is buggin’ me a bit in a few of the lines- but I’ll leave it for now – til I figure it out
      thank you, thank you DS
the only thing when you add a video that I don’t like is it always appears in the Reader rather than the art – that kinda stinks

      • The sun is shining on the trees this a.m., AM. ๐Ÿ˜‰ When I latch onto a song I often listen to it over and over; I do that a lot, actually. You did mention about Lauren and I’d like to see that movie sometime if I can find it on Netflix or other.

Cinnamon scones — love ’em! โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿช

It’s great how you’re always thinking critically about your writing, which is the mark of a real writer. You know what you’re doing, what you want to do and that’s very commendable.

Ain’t writin’ til later. On way to get — wait for it! — FISH TACOS!! ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŒฎ๐ŸŒฎ๐ŸŒฎ

      • I could I miss a fish taco comment, darn it!
first let me say – yuck;) I guess I’m just way to Italian to ever put those 2 food groups together
glad you had a sunny day, DS
I dislike waking up to gloom and it has been gloomy these past few mornings
you saved yourself with adding the scone food group here;)
I’m reading and trying to delve into the minds of authentic and true poets – grand they are Plath, Oliver, Cummings and my new pal, William Carlos Williams

      • Pkg with another poet on its way, should arrive today. I’m not at all happy with the USPS right now. They told me it’d be there on Saturday. Well, enjoy your reading, Miss. You have to at least try a fish taco sometime. It will make of ye a real … something or other. Can’t think or be clever ’cause these cats will not stop crying!

  3. Smiling I am — I also read the title first as “scones.” But then, I love scones and we’ve just returned from church in the North End (read that, italian neighborhood)….stopping afterwards at Modern Pasty Shop for a slice of their delicious ricotta pie and a cappuccino. So must still have had yummy pastries on my mind — and for you, my Italian writer friend ๐Ÿ™‚ LOVE the portrait — and love the words too.
Tapered candles versus votives….very ineteresting juxtaposition here! ๐Ÿ™‚ And always lips tinted with red wine ๐Ÿ™‚

    • lol, talk about interpreting –
my friend DS also that this read as scones – I keep seeing scones now too!
this piece is still hiccuping in my head – a few lines need to be tinkered with, at some point…
but thank you for your lovely comment, Lillian

  4. My feet left the floor last month, too. Damn banana peels. What can I say? I’m a product of my jungle upbringing… : )

A corporate identity image… seemed an odd choice at first, but then it all clicked: desire so often outweighs conscience in the business world– so true! Very subtle, AM, very subtle… : )

… lips will ripen with fine red wine… Great line. My own taste runs more to Kool-aid, but let’s face it, everyone’s lip nurturing routine is different.

Tapered candles, votive candles. Yes, there’s a possible conflict there, especially in matters of the libido. I’m sure Martha Stewart said as much. Or was it Miss Manners? Liberace, perhaps… : )

    Most enjoyable, my dear poesy-meister!

    • see now, my funny buddy –
that’s why I don’t eat bananas – the funnest fruit – sure they look silly – but I just don’t like ’em – never been tripped up by a sour green apple;)
ah, corporate identity class – I got a job through my little ad campaign for the course – wore big hair and even bigger long red nails behind the shmancy counter of I Natural Cosmetics!
many things can be added to Kool-aid – truth be told that giant talking Kool-aid pitcher freaks me out;)
if you walk into a room and there are candles lit-if there are no pentagrams you might be okay;)
be well, of my gallant knight of Humor
thank you, Mark for you kind and generous words here – you make my mind bend in all sorts of interesting ways (now don’t do anything with this line)…
