death does not bother here

into boiling tar black
sprinting

I cannot see
touching the earth

silent my naked feet
through ant mazes
I follow you

pounding blood
wets my soul
blindness does not hold
ears to deafness in this place
nocturnal rants plow over
rusting tears
I do not reach you
your flesh vanishes
wind through light

shadows no longer
chain dreams
to this hollow
its emptiness curdling
the stench sour
senses abandon
memories
chill my heart
I can no longer find my way home
I do not want to
death does not bother here
crown-monster-edits
sketched during road trip to New Hampshire

  1. One of the (many, many) things you do so well, AM, is demonstrated here, in this verse: You absolutely know how to nail an emotion on the page, and that’s a most difficult, difficult thing to do. But you do it. How does a feeling “feel”? That’s what you’re able to show through your writing, here and elsewhere. I look at lines like “blindness does not hold / ears to deafness in this place” and my God, my God–I get that! That’s just a crackin’-great line, but then you go on … “your flesh vanishes / wind through light,” and that startling end-stopper “I can no longer find my way home / I do not want to”–cripe’s-a-mighty, lady, you’re a fucking word artist. Incredible. DS
P.S.: Love the art, too. You know, I’m seeing the AMRKian art style in image as well as language.

  2. Beautiful work by a beautiful AnnMarie! I am still having sleep problems and going through the worst depression in 18 years. I am just going to relax and watch my horror movies and wrestling. All this will pass when I get out of the Fall. Time does heal. I hope all is well at your end friend. AnnMarie=Number One! woo hoo!
