I sometimes,
well, who am I kidding
I often reread my words and critique my art
thinking exactly this
what am I thinking
what am I trying to get at
sometimes
I don’t appreciate the kind decades
generous, in fact
as I’ve had them
to write angst when I’m happy
create euphoria when I’m blue
mold dream sequences I dare not live
in both word and form
often content in my ability
to be discontent
moody
spoiled
the excuse
the “creative” mind or spirit
instead, the reality
woman with the freedom of choice…

In 2017, on the sage advice of a dear writing friend, I began the grueling task of submitting my work to online journals. It is my hope, my dream (like so many others on the crowded cloud we share) to have my work reach a broader audience. In many cases, I cannot use writing pieces from my dear blog. These pieces are considered by many journals, “previously published” and therefore not “submittable.” Today, I am writing the bulk of my work offline. For anntogether, I’ve rediscovered my passion for marrying art and word. I enjoy creating small writing pieces or giving earlier works new life. Then I add art and wha lah! I hope you enjoy and I humbly thank you for visiting.😘

A brilliant Introduction Ann Marie 😀 I have been toying with going self hosted for the longest time, but the the control freak in me feared being dependent on others to manage the technicalities. Seems like I am better off where I am!
hanks for stopping by my site earlier and leading me here 🙂

I wouldn’t advise self-hosting unless you are confident with your tech skills. It does cut you out of certain WP advantages. Of course, they set it up that way to keep us all here ;-). But, on the other hand, if you’re a confident sort with tech, there is so much more you can do physically with your site – as far as design, widgets… – it might be worth it. There, I just confused you. My husband often tells me I can do that very well – it’s a talent I have 😉
Good luck with which ever way you decide to go.
And thank you.

Way back (well, maybe one year isn’t that far back) but way back when I started my blog, I accepted some awards, the lovely Creative may have been one. I’ve since sort of stopped answering the call for awards (though I continue to very much appreciate the honor – like the beauty pageant nod you hope to get when you turn 90) as my blogcabin mantle holds a few now.
So, again I humbly thank you for your most thoughtful honor. You’ve made my morning a happy one. I hope you have a lovely weekend as well.

Oh my…..I don’t even know where to begin! Thanks of course, for visiting my blog recently and shouting out a Like. Truly appreciated. I’m quite new to blogging and poetry….not new to life! 🙂 Taking poetry classes and ended up loving the use of words …. Used to tell my now 38 and 40 year old children, when they were in the midst of those high pitched screams that 2 year olds do, “Use your words!” and find myself following that same moniker after all these years! So so glad to connect here — and will follow for sure — I don’t do many. Your artwork is quite incredible….exhibits soul and passion clearly. Our home is filled with original artwork we’ve purchased in some of our favorite places — and some from places around the globe from my past career directing a global MBA. Our latest purchase, a beautiful watercolor from our 1 month stay (all of February — we missed all of Boston’s blizzards!) in Bermuda….the colors of the water there absolutely must be an artist’s dream.
“Mary’s stories lived in the folds of her face.
Her most prized story floated
in the crinkled waves around her ocean eyes.”
So — I relate to soooo many of your poems but this one I chose to comment on….the “ocean eyes” possessed by my granddaughter — and surely reflected in the waters surrounding Bermuda! But mostly, the idea of aging naturally — the folds of the face living our lives — I look at hands in the same way.
Love everything about this site — smiled outloud at the poem with the woodpecker bird….the dull females with the bright males who wander 🙂
Sorry for the length — sometimes you just connect, right? Would love to have you meander more around my site — or not. In any case, not always tit for tat — just very worthwhile seeing your work!

Lillian –
I must say, what a treasure you must be to your children. I can deduce quite plainly from your thoughtful words how deep and caring a person you are.
My blog of late has been quite blue, for that I’m sorry. Normally it’s a bit more upbeat. I haven’t been writing free verse for very long, so it has been interesting for me. I’ve been discovering when I sit down and start with one idea in mind, something else completely different takes shape. I humbly thank you for your kindness and uplifting words.
I take it you live in Boston? I have a niece and a nephew there (sister and brother). My niece just finished studying abroad in Ireland and my nephew would like to work toward additional creative writing degrees. They both went through (well, the niece will be entering her senior year) Boston University. And my brother, now currently an FBI agent in Philli, graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT.
I wish you all the best with your blog. You seem to me the type to be enchanted by and enjoy the process that is blogging. Welcome and again, I’m amazed and astounded with your lovely comment.
So very nice to meet you, Lillian.

Just popped back here — reread your About — wondering if you have a studio? As in one people can visit — or just as your special get-away-room for yourself. (picture in the header is where you work?) Looking back over my blog — did some reorganizing within categories etc now that I’m a bit more “seasoned” shall we say….as in 3 whole months in this space.
Never thought of the “friends” aspect of this world when I began….gives entirely new meaning to “friends with benefits” as in the opportunity to see within and read the thoughts and see the artwork and photos etc. So glad I’ve joined this community and wanted to give a shout out of thanks for your welcome to this world. Guess I’m feeling a bit nostalgic after reading Alan’s post this morning 🙂
Happy Tuesday to you………..on to my second cup!

AH, thank you again, Lillian. My studio is directly off my kitchen 🙂 And soon it may move to the other side of the house if my mother-in-law’s home sale goes through. She currently resides in New Mexico. (I posted about her a ways back – stained glass artist). I’d give up my studio and adjoining piano room, as she can no longer do stairs.
But for now, I love my studio – it’s been quite perfect.
When I first began blogging, I felt so lost. It is amazing how quickly people come through the computer screen and tug at your heart strings. They make you feel welcome and so very fortunate. I’ve met so many talented, kind, humorous and generous folks – like you… As impersonal and cold as technology can be, blogging makes the whole affair a very warm place indeed 🙂

I am not sure they will but best to stay positive and always hope for change but I’ll focus on the things that are within my control and focus on my writing what makes me happy and kill off all the negative very potent toxic energy headed my way through my writing.

You’re absolutely killin’ me, kid. You don’t give up easily 🙂 You’re are kind and thoughtful and I indeed appreciate absolutely each and every nom for all these amazing and unique honors – each one with its own special story and rooted history. I will one day do a post (you’re making me think about it sooner rather than later) for all these lovely noms – my humble blog has received in wondrous appreciation and gratitude. When I first started my blog (gosh, seems so very long ago but really not – in Feb 2014) these award were indeed lovely to receive and to pass on – they truly help get one’s blog out there. I don’t want to discount others who may just be starting out knowing these awards may hep them in their efforts – we all know how much dedication and effort a blog can take. So in that light – I will get a post out soon. As far as the individual awards, young Sir Robin – again I so very humbly appreciate your generous spirit and in the spirit you’ve nom’d my old blog and person 🙂 – I’m grateful there are yougin’s like you out there who can still appreciate old gal ramblings 😉 pass these lovely things onto those other deserving blogs – so very many and you have my promise – I will do a post soon for all these special honors 🙂

hey, isn’t it passed your bedtime yet 😉

Well, after reading your lovely comment, I’m smiling there with my hand gently covering my smile. Post comfortably later, Miss AnnMarie! you absolutely have no restrictions on that one;) A blog reflects the owner’s style of conveying ideas, thoughts or simply words & feelings.
Coming to the awards, I consider your point but genuinely, my heart doesn’t let it go! I try to nominate new followers, too. But I don’t like to put some special bloggers down, oh I’d never do that! So the battle of Heart Vs. Mind is won by the Heart always! yeah:)
Whoa- “Old girl ramblings”! Ha ha, Miss, you’re too funny. I think sweet people like you are never old! Ha ha, for instance if you’re 35, I would call you “a sweet sixteen with nineteen years of experience!” Oh and that’s fair:)
Keep posting amazing stuff like squirrels, mythical creatures and poetic lines! Love them:)
And oops! You caught me off-guard! Yeah it’s passed my bedtime! Mom would kill me If she knows. But replying gets so addictive, you know! I’ll sleep on time, kay?:)
Gosh I was right when I said you know me a lot better than the others, ha ha!
By the way thanks for the kind and sweet words!

You are welcome, Sir Robin. And more kind words from the ‘fountain of youth’ 😉
And you’re absolutely correct, blogging can get addictive – as wondrous and fun as it is – don’t let it cut into your true creative time. 🙂

Hi Thom,
I do adore music. I’ll get over for a visit – sorry about that – trying to keep head above water, but one should never stray too far from music – so often it is music alone keeping life afloat 🙂
Thank you,
annmarie:)

I was thinking about you today as my favorite photography student, Liz, invited e to accompany her to a Renaissance Festival in Washington in August. I’ll pick her up at her house and continue driving my SmartCar to the festival. The local one in Hillsboro got cancelled for this year because the town management got greedy and changed the contract terms. The festival balked and now there is no 3rd annual affair, 😦 Anyway Amy Brown will be at the 2nd weekend of the Washington Festival. You may already know of her but here’s a link to her website. https://www.amybrownart.com/bio.asp – Later, Bob

Hi Bob,
I hope you’re feeling well and yurt shopping is progressing. Staying away from the blog is tougher than I thought, but I need to focus a bit. I tend to get over-zealous in all that I do.
I checked out Miss Brown’s work – excellent, thank you for thinking of me and sharing. How exciting – real artist representation! Enjoy the festival. They put on a huge Renaissance Fair here to – Sterling Forest, NY.
It’s funny, I was thinking of you yesterday and was holding info for you… I think you’d find this man’s life quite captivating. He flies ’round the planet in his own little handmade plane – really cool guy and yes, he has a blog – kr2worldtour.blogspot.com
Later, Dude
enjoy your McChats
