Daniel Kennedy is a writer and teacher from rural Pennsylvania. He holds an MFA from Virginia Tech, where he won the Emily Morrison Prize in Fiction, and a PhD from the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program, where he won the Inprint Donald Barthelme Memorial Prize in Nonfiction and the Provost Teaching Excellence Award. His writing has appeared in New England Review, The Florida Review, Appalachian Review, The Carolina Quarterly, Arts & Letters, BULL, and elsewhere. His work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and listed as a notable essay in Best American Essays. He is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Angelo State University.

While I disagree with some of his observations, I found the article interesting and a comprehensive explanation of his perspective. That being said, I pick up on a little TDS throughout. As a 65 year old guy who never played organized sports (tennis and marathons as an adult) in HS or College, I have a somewhat different perspective. I did learn a new word though, “metonym.” Thanks for sharing the article.

In truth, I had to read Daniel’s editorial twice. The first time I read it as his gushing aunt, the second time I read it was for content – and one another truth – I also had to look up “metonym.” 🙂

Hello AnnMarie my number one gal pal I got my A1C down from 9.2 to 8.0 a huge drop the dr said they want you between 7 and 8 im shooting to get a 7 next time im celebrating my birthday next wed with apple cider donuts brownies and cake on my birthday. Got some wrestling movies and reg movies including horror gifts plus surprises. I’m starting work on a serious dark dramatic story of drug abuse and it will be a long project. I’m going to enjoy myself. Hope all is well with you AnnMarie I’m catching up to you in age 41 yikes but like I say the more wrinkles the better
