Badass

A gleaming motorcycle arrived via flatbed to our suburban ranch. Six children are warned not to touch its chrome and attitude. Dad has never ridden a motorcycle before. He tells us he’ll be back later — he’s taking the bike across the George Washington Bridge. Wearing a button-up shirt, plaid Bermuda shorts, black knee socks and brown loafers, no one ever looked more badass.

  1. 63 words (yes, I counted ‘em) of perfection. 63 words that capture your father, AM. I can see him zipping over the George Washington Bridge even as I read. 🏍️ Deb

  2. Ok, I was a firefighter for 32 years and took some interesting risks, but I cringe at the thought of taking my first motorcycle ride anywhere near, never mind across the GWB. Traffic (and crazies) wasn’t as bad beck then, but still. . .

    • I think this is you -Ray – a firefighter – what noble work – thank you.❤️

My dad was an old-school wise ass from Brooklyn – the quintessential ‘tough guy’

I grew up believing my dad feared nothing – then when I became a parent – it dawned on me – he’d feared something all along – sending 4 daughters out into the world
